The doctor will tilt the patient's head to one side and ask them to close their eyes, then move the head up and down quickly. If this causes pain, it suggests that there may be some sort of primary headache disorder that needs further evaluation.

Migraine sufferers also need to be aware of their personal warning signs before the onset of an attack: nausea, vomiting, or neck stiffness.
